Borgward Fans Rejoice? Former German Luxury Brand Returning to Market

A long-forgotten name is set to reappear on the automotive scene; German luxury carmaker, Borgward is staging a comeback.

Christian Borgward may only know his once-famous grandfather, Carl Friedrich W. Borgward, from tales told by his father or from magazines, but he's hooked on the family tradition. So much so that he is now planning the return of the Borgward brand.

Borgward existed from the 1930s through the 1950s. In its heyday it was on par with such luxury cars as Mercedes-Benz and BMW. But changing market conditions led to bankruptcy in 1961.

Now Borgward is poised to reappear. According to an interview in the German Welt magazine, Christian Borgward is planning a small series luxury sedan carrying the historic name. "It is still too early to talk about fine details, but the 'Borgward 2006' awaits a fascinating future," he said.

What this means to you: If you have to drive a German luxury sedan and a Mercedes or Porsche isn't exotic enough for you, the 2006 Borgward might be what you've been waiting for.

Misschien is het een goed idee om eens een paar chops te zien om een idee te krijgen hoe een Borgward er in 2005 zou kunnen uitzien. Wie durft?
