Alfa Romeo Giulia (2011)
2011 Alfa Romeo Giulia: New Name and Looks for Alfa’s 159 Successor
In its latest issue, Italian car magazine Quattroruote has an article on Alfa Romeo’s new mid-sized sedan that will replace the 159. According to Quattroruote’s sources, the 159’s successor will revive the famed Giulia nameplate as the Italian company is replacing its current system of numeric model names for more personal ones.
Unfortunately, Alfa won’t be reviving the original Giulia’s rear-wheel-drive layout as the Italian sedan will be based on a modified version of the Lancia Delta / Fiat Bravo platform. Like the 159, the new Giulia will be offered in front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions. In terms of styling, Quattroruote’s artists suggest that like the Mito, the Giulia will feature a front end inspired from the 8c Competizione.

159 is a fine car as is.
If they don't plan Giulia to be RWD, then they shouldn't bother replacing it

Tegen die tijd is het 8C design alweer verlopen.
Laat ze maar eerst met een nieuwe concept komen alvorens er weer geshopt wordt.

Waarom? Ik zie Alfa-Romeo liever niet vervallen in het pseudo-retrodesign van de Mito. Op de 8C werkte dat design, maar om elke Alfa-Romeo als een geforceerde look-a-like daarvan vorm te gaan geven? Dan komt Alfa in het zelfde straatje terecht als Jaguar jarenlang. Nee, dan zie ik liever die shop van Leftlane: een sportieve scherp gelijnde auto met een eigen karakter.

En koplampen die nogal wat BMW-geïnspireerd zijn? Neen, dan heb ik liever dat ze met iets helemaal nieuw uit de bus komen. Of de huidige koplampen een grote update geven, want die vind ik magnifiek!

Het punt is dat deze shop nergens op gebaseerd is. Gewoon een stuk verzinsel zonder enige inspiratie. En geloof me, op een 8C afgeleid ontwerp zit ik ook niet te wachten. Laat Alfa eerst maar met een nieuw concept komen.
En inderdaad de koplampen zijn te Nissan Silvia / BMW.
De huidige koplampen vind ik ook de mooiste ooit. Maar toch heb ik liever een Alfa zoals de impressie van Leftlanenews dan die andere rode hier in het topic. Daar lijken de verhoudingen niet te kloppen, ik vind die helemaal niet mooi. Ik hoop dan ook dat ze niet die richting uitgaan met alle toekomstige Alfa's, want ik vond dat ze net zo goed bezig waren met de 159 en de Brera.

Ik moet de eerste echt lellijke Alfa nog tegenkomen en ik denk niet dat ze ons in de steek gaan laten. Toen ik hoorde dat de 156 ging vervangen worden, dacht ik dat ze zo'n auto niet mooier konden maken. Toch werd ik weer aangenaam verrast met de 159. Alfa zal ons wel niet teleurstellen.
